Dolphins trade CB Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh Steelers

Coming off the heels of Miami Dolphins superstar WR Tyreek Hill being a guest on Johnny Manziel’s “Glory Daze” podcast, hoping his team would bring Jalen Ramsey back in 2025, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins are sending three-time All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for three-time All-Pro FS Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. With the addition of Ramsey, the Steelers continued their busy offseason by acquiring QB Aaron Rodgers, WR D.K. Metcalf, and CB Darius Slay Jr., as they prepare for what should be a very competitive AFC North in 2025.

Ramsey will receive a $1.5M raise this season, bringing his total compensation to $26.6M, per the report. Fitzpatrick is heading back to the Dolphins’ secondary, where he played his first 18 NFL games before being traded to the Steelers, and will join former Detroit Lions SS Ifeatu Melifonwu, who has flashes of greatness but has been hampered by injuries throughout his career. Smith is coming off his first Pro Bowl season, logging 88 receptions and 884 yards, both franchise records for the Dolphins.
Ramsey is now the fourth captain from the Dolphins’ 2024 season, who will not suit up in aqua in 2025, joining Calais Campbell (Arizona Cardinals), David Long Jr. (Tennessee Titans), and Terron Armstead (retired) and leaves a large hole in the Dolphins secondary with Storm Duck and Jason Marshall Jr. projected to be the starters heading into the season. On the other side, the Steelers now have Ramsey, Slay Jr., and Joey Porter Jr. in the cornerback position.
